Timeline

GNGLL's proposed timeline for our efforts related to this project is shown below. The timeline presented here is subject to change, but gives a general idea of the steps necessary to bring this project to fruition.

Current Timeline


Feb 24, 2021

GNGLL had an initial meeting with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Overall reaction was positive. Using this information, GNGLL moves to begin an earnest plan to create a ball field facility at Intervale Fields.

March 22, 2021

GNGLL selects a wetlands survey contractor and authorizes the wetlands survey to begin.

April 2, 2021

April 22, 2020 - 5:30pm - @Intervale Field

Open tour of the fields and a discussion of the proposed facility. GNGLL’s Intervale Fields committee will discuss our plans and take notes on community concerns that we will consider as we move toward the full design.

Summer 2021

With the wetlands survey complete, GNGLL’s Intervale Fields Committee will now work with our architect to develop the full facility. We’ll consider input from various community groups as we finalize our plan.

Late Summer 2021

  • Additional visit to ball fields to show updated plan and gain feedback.

  • DEP permits are expected to be filed based on our plan.

Fall 2021

Once state permits are granted, we’ll present our final plan to the New Gloucester Planning Board. Our goal is to create a fantastic facility that delivers top quality ball fields, trail heads, educational information, and bird watching opportunities. Our goal is to be considerate to the needs of the community while creating a facility that will serve a large contingent of the community for years to come.

Spring 2022

Construction of the fields will begin.

May 2023

Key moments in the development of the Intervale Fields Project



Spring 2018

GNGLL Board of Directors asked Steve Libby to reach out to the Chandlers to ask if the league could purchase their ball field. After an initial meeting, we learned the Chandlers wanted to sell their entire property.

Spring 2018

GNGLL Board authorized Steve to reach out to the Royal River Conservation Trust to see if they would be interested in partnering for the opportunity.

Spring 2019

Option with Chandlers to purchase and preserve their land.

Summer 2019

Initial presentation to New Gloucester Select Board. GNGLL fields plan includes three fields and a new snack shack. The proposed amenities include lights, stands, handicap-accessible restrooms,

Fall 2019

RRCT & GNGLL begin land purchase fundraising.

Spring 2020

Pause in the action - COVID-19

Fall 2020

GNGLL presents an updated plan to some of the field location neighbors in an attempt at goodwill and community involvement.
